EVENT | ELLICSR Kitchen offers more than just recipes for cancer patients & caregivers

Last month, we were invited to attend an event at the ELLICSR kitchen (inside the Princess Margaret), a health, wellness and cancer survivorship center.  In the past, many of the events we attended were menu launches or new restaurant launches, but this time it was slightly different.  Don't get us wrong, there were some delicious food but this event left us with a desire to spread the word about the amazing work they're doing here! Read on to see what #twEATup was all about!

ELLICSR Kitchen along with Chef Geremy Capone and Registered Dietitian Christy Brisette offer more than just friendly faces and delicious recipe videos. Along with their team, they offer a culinary nutritional program with education, skill training and support to promote healthy eating, as well as to bring back the enjoyment of food that some cancer patients & survivors may have lost due to treatment.  Something that can be as simple as spaghetti can be hard for people that has never cooked before, or even for patients undergoing specific treatments as tomato contains a high level of acid, so consuming it can be a problem.

Getting a taste of Chef Geremy's delicious and healthy recipes as well as fresh fruits, veggies and finger foods provided by Longo's were definitely memorable:
 Sweet Spring Pea Crostini

Dinosaur Kale Ketchup Chips with Smoked Gouda & Celery Root Soup

Cedar Plank Steel-head Trout Fishsticks

Longo's Vegetables Spring Rolls & Chicken Empanadas

 Cheese & Nut Charcuterie

Fresh Veggies with Kale Borani Dip

 Fruit Tray

Fresh Veggies with Cannellini Bean & Sun-dried Tomato Dip

Maple Pulled Pork Tenderloin sandwiched in butternut squash biscuits

A cooking demonstration with Chef Geremy:
 Charred Asparagus & Millet Salad

Sweet Potato Poutine with Mushroom Ketchup

Orange Chocolate Zabaglione with blackberries

We loved this so much and because it is SUPER easy to make at home
(at least, Chef Geremy made it look like so), we wanted to share the video below.

You can watch  more of Chef Geremy & Christy in action on their Youtube channel (www.youtube.com/ellicsrkitchen). It's full of helpful tips & delicious recipes for cancer patients and also for their caregivers.

Cancer is something that touches everyone at one point in their life, and we're no exception. We have been volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society for about two years now and as if it wasn't rewarding enough, seeing a program at Princess Margaret like this that provides direct support to people in need is extra inspiring.  It shows that donations and support really do make a difference, so don't be shy to be generous! :)

Chef Geremy and Christy provide these workshops where you get to watch them cook and sample the delicious recipes on every first Thursdays of the month (check schedule here).

-The Food Sisterhood attended this event as media
thus food & drinks were complimentary but opinions are our own-
