REVIEW | Green Papaya - awesome lunch specials & patio on yonge st.

If you're around a busy area like Yonge & Eglinton, there's always a lot of restaurants to choose from.  However, when I want Thai/ Vietnamese food, I find myself returning to Green Papaya, a cozy little restaurant located just a few blocks North of Eglinton, for its lunch specials.

At lunchtime, it's always busy! Not to worry though, as their service is fast and efficient - rarely anyone stays over an hour to eat lunch.  Since it's the summertime, they've opened their patio as well, which is a bonus.

The lunch menu offers quite a lot of different dishes with chicken, tofu, seafood or beef served with rice or noodles.  You get a soup or salad to start and most plates come with a delicious spring roll as well.  All this under $10 (for most)!

We both started with the Wonton Soup.  The little chicken dumplings in the soup are so good! I can never get enough.  The soup itself is flavourful as well without being too salty.  It is chicken broth, so if you've a vegetarian, choose the other soup, which is the Lemongrass Soup. I usually do not like cilantro but I didn't mind it at all here.

As my main, I choose the Blackbean Chicken, which is served with rice, a springroll with plum sauce and some vegetable garnish.  There was a good ratio of chicken to vegetables, which included snowpeas, onion, red peppers, and green peppers.  I liked the fact that it was saucy enough to mix with my rice, but after a while, it got a little too salty.  The sauce is a combination of blackbean paste and oyster sauce.

My friend had the General Tao Chicken.  This was definitely a winner!  The chicken is lightly breaded and stir-fried in ginger honey hoisin sauce with red & green peppers and green onions.  This too was served with rice and a spring roll.

From my other visits to Green Papaya, I can vouch that the dishes below are good choices for lunch as well:

1. Cashew Chicken
2. Green Curry with rice
3. Pho Noodles
